Evgeni Orkin is an exceptional composer and musician who has made a name for himself both as an author and as a performer on the modern and historical clarinet. With his unique musical vision and skills, he has established himself on the international music scene.

 

Evgeni Orkin was born in Ukraine (Lviv) into a family of musicians. After graduating from music college, he continued his education at renowned institutions, including the music colleges in Kyiv (Ukraine), Utrecht (Holland) and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim (Germany). There he specialized in composition as well as in clarinet and conducting.

 

Evgeni Orkin has played in numerous international concerts and festivals both as a soloist and in collaboration with well-known orchestras and ensembles worldwide. Particularly noteworthy is his in-depth study of historical original instruments and his impressive CD recordings of the baroque and classical repertoire on the historical clarinet instruments.

 

As a specialist and collector of historical clarinets, he has created his book

"A methodical approach to learning and playing the historical clarinet and its usage in historical performance practice" established him as one of the leading figures in the field of clarinet music. The book was published in German, English and Ukrainian.

 

His repertoire covers a wide range of musical styles - from early music to contemporary composition. Orkin regularly collaborates with leading composers, highlighting his versatility and influence in the music world. Numerous works are dedicated to him, such as the compositions of Valentin Silvestrov, Yevgen Stankovych, Nuno Corte-Real, Bouke Feleus, Stefan Schulzki, Ernst Bechert.

 

In addition to his work as a clarinetist, Orkin is also a prolific composer whose works have been performed in various countries and on major stages. The well-known orchestras that perform his music include the Heidelberg Theater Orchestra, INSO Lviv, the Deutsche Oper Berlin Orchestra, the Odense Symphony Orchestra, the Corean Notional Symphony Orchestra, the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Odesa Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, and the Reutlingen Philharmonic , Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich, Kamerata Kyiv, Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester, Princeton University Orchestra, youth orchestras of Ukraine and Germany etc.

The soloist interpreters of his music include, among others, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sol Gabetta, Bohdana Pivnenko, Enrico Palascino, Zoltan Amlaschy, Andrii Murza, Alexey Semenenko, Nadia Shpachenko, Kiev Piano Duo, Giora Feidman, Sebastian Lastein, Anton Hollich, Dieter Hubov, Sofia Molchanova etc.

 

The music festivals such as Vienna Music Weeks, Young Euro Classics, Weimar Art Festival, Lucerne Music Festival, East-West Paris, Contrasts Lviv, LvivMozArt, “KIEV MUSIC FEST”, “Heidelberger Fruhling”, “Lüneburger Heide”, Lake Constance Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Cataract Hamburg and others welcomed his works in their concert programs.

 

He has written numerous compositions for orchestra, chamber music and solo instruments, which are highly regarded by critics and music lovers alike. His creative approach combines different eras and styles into a unique musical language.

 

His works have been published by “Accolade Musikverlag”, “Konsid Musikverlag” and “Are Musikverlag” and are enjoying growing popularity.

 

Evgeni Orkin is currently active as both a musician and an educator. He regularly appears on international stages and takes part in international projects. He also works as a lecturer at the Mannheim University of Music, where he passes on his passion for playing the clarinet and the history of the instrument to young talents.
